This concerns unintentional transboundary movement of GM garden petunias with modified flower colour (orange). Finnish inspection services reported the presence of GM petunia with orange flower colour which were not authorized in EU. The identification of the GM petunias is based on the presence of (trans)genic elements P35, T35, Pnos and nptII. Currently the exact nature of the modification and (breeding) history of the GM petunias are under further investigation.
Although, based on the current available information, environmental risks to man and the environment are considered to be neglilible, the presence of these GM petunias on the European market are illegal. Therefore measures are and will be taken to remove these plants from the European market.
For further information is supplied in the attached documentation.
